FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions
Usually, the first thing that people want to know is – how much do you pay? Let’s just be upfront and get this out of the way.
In NOVEMBER 2023 our highest rate was $2.25/minute of recording transcribed, with the lowest rate $0.98/minute. The average rate over the month was $1.16/minute.
The rates we offer our team vary depending on the specifics of the client’s order. The more time or skill it takes to transcribe a project (e.g. timestamps, poor audio quality, more than two people talking) the higher the charge to the client. In turn, the higher the rate for the typist.
Just to be clear from the outset, we do NOT want to short change our transcriptionists. This is not what Transcript Heroes is about and we never will be. We pride ourselves on beating the average hourly rate for transcriptionists working in Canada. As a company, we also commit to enabling contractors to hit above the Canadian Living Wage.
Transcript Heroes pays the highest, or near the highest, transcription contractor rates in Canada. Having fair and generous rates has meant that many of our loyal team have been with us for a number of years.
This is well-paid work for people who view themselves as established and professional transcriptionists.
We enlist independent transcription contractors to deliver typing services across a diverse range of projects. When you partner with us, you provide a service that we, in turn, procure. Consequently, as a transcriptionist on our team, you are a business owner, or contractor, not an employee or part-time worker. In this dynamic, we take on the role of clients rather than bosses. We offer the projects for you to accept or decline.
We recognize that for some of our contractors, transitioning from an employee mindset to a business owner mindset may be something new.
Running a business provides considerable freedom, but it also carries specific responsibilities. If your services don’t meet our high standards, we simply stop purchasing from you. While we are here for guidance, and to answer your questions, we don’t train transcriptionists. We trust you to be a seasoned professional; you understand your role as a business owner who provides a service, rather than an employee under a boss’s supervision.
If this is an entirely new concept, please take the time to consider if this kind of working relationship aligns well with your career goals before you send in your application.
Contractors email their invoices detailing the month’s projects. We compare this to our records and, usually within 14 days, payment will be in your bank account.
Our acceptance standards for applicants are high. We give our clients a 14-day 200% Guarantee on accuracy and timelines and so we need our team to have standards that are equally high.
If this sounds like you, we look forward to hearing from you.
Please note, we get 10–15 applications a week, so we will only contact applicants we are certain will make it to the next stage of the process. If Human Resources approves your application (the team usually does a review every 30 days) we will contact you for a quick test and a phone interview.
Good Luck!
