Jobs with Transcript Heroes
An honest, reliable business, offering contractors transcription work at a good rate is the aim at Transcript Heroes.
Transcription Rates.
Transcript Heroes aim to provide very competitive rates The contractor rates we offer go up and down depending on the service a client has ordered. Essentially the more complicated and faster the project, the more the client will be charged. In turn, we will offer a contractor more to complete a more complicated project (our Transcription Pay rates).
Quality – how good are our Heroes?
We are the only transcription service to offer a 200% guarantee on quality and timelines. We need high-quality contractors working with us. A transcriptionist will need to be on time, every time. Accurate, always. If you are not, we simply take you off the contractor list and you will stop getting offers to work with us.
Do note, that as a contractor you do get the chance to review and “accept” or “decline” a project offer before starting it. We don’t set up contractors to fail.
Heroes are Contractors – Not Employees
As an independent contractor, you cannot be an employee. Working as an independent contractor it is best if you think of yourself as starting a “small business”. One of the mistakes we see with people progressing from full time or part time employment to contracting, that is running their own small business, is confusion over their role and relationships.
Do not confuse being an employee (full time or part-time) with being a contractor. Tax rules are quite strict about which is which and we have to comply with them. Some Transcription Services like to float around in the “grey zone” sometimes acting like an “employee”, other times acting like a “client” to the contractors business. This adds to the confusion we see. Tax law (see: here) is clear, and dictates the relationship between us and our contractors.
- PAID BY INVOICE NOT A SET “PAYDAY”: Transcriptionists will need to supply an invoice for services performed (our target date for paying invoices is 7 days after contractors submit. Sometimes we are earlier, sometimes later. If contractors need a “firm” date – we are open to contract changes/discussion, but firm dates need to be in the contract, please get in touch).
- NO TRAINING: Transcriptionists are expected to be fully skilled (although we cannot “teach” you to type etc., we do provide guidance on our systems and style guides etc.).
- PROJECT BY PROJECT: Transcriptionists must work on a project by project basis – and not have a set amount of hours per week etc. This is one of the big ones as far as the tax department is concerned.
- ABILITY TO TURN DOWN PROJECT OFFERS: Transcriptionists must be able to turn down work offered. Be able to say yes or no, and have the ability to negotiate the rate/
Overall, it helps greatly if contractors think of themselves as “small business owners” who have “clients” (like Transcript Heroes) that they supply services too. You need to approach your work as an expert professional, that is operating in a highly competitive environment. Treat your clients like you like to be treated by businesses you deal with. Customer Service is paramount.
